Programs The Upper Valley Museum at Leavenworth provides monthly programs for the residents and visitors to the Leavenworth area. These presentations and tours deal with the history of the Upper Wenatchee Valley. Unless otherwise noted, they will occur on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum on the Barn Beach Nature Center - 347 Division Street - located northeast of the Leavenworth business district. Unless noted, the admission to these events is usually by DONATION. All Programs are subject to change of content, dates and times. Whenever possible, those changes will be reflected on this web site. |

2007 Fall Series September Pioneer Families of the Upper Valley September 4th - 7:00 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch A Power Point slide presented by Byron Dickenson of Lake Wenatchee. October History of the Amberleaf Theater October 2nd - 7:00 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch A presentation by Arleen Blackburn, long time resident of Leavenworth and member of the Amberleaf Theater. The Wellington Avalanche Disaster October 18th - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Bring a lunch and wear comfortable shoes. Must provide your own transportation - car pooling possible. A 6 hour Tour of the Great Northern sites, ending at the town-site of Wellington, where in 1910, an avalanche knocked two trains over a mountain side, killing nearly 100 people. Cost: $10 per person. November History of Sports in Leavenworth November 20th - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch Enjoy a conversation with Bob Stroup, Kjell Bakke, Jim Adamson and Dave Parsons, as they discuss the history of Sports in the Leavenworth area. These individuals were involved in several sports activities both with the High School and public events, like Ski Jumping. 2007-8 Winter Series December The Traditions of Christmas with Leavenworth's Father Christmas December 4th - 6:30p.m. - Museum Sun Porch A Power Point slide presentation of the forming of the American Christmas Traditions - based on Euopean customs. Pictures with Father Christmas - $10.00 Come and enjoy the Christmas decorations by Kris Kringl in the beautiful house, formerly known as the Haus Lorelei. January Discover Your Roots January 22nd - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch Getting Started in Genealogy - Presented by members of the Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society Betty Carrick - Bobbie Ferg - Patti Wehnam Enjoy an evening for learning how to research and preserve your family history. Bring a pad & pen to take notes. February The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery A Reflection of the Past, Present and Future of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery February 5th - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch Presented by Corky Broaddus, Executive Director and Manager of Information and Educational Services

2008 Spring Series March EXPERIENCE CHELAN COUNTY Chelan County Public Utility District March 11th - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch A presentation on hydro-facilities and fish by Bob Bauer, Rocky Reach Dam Visitor Service Educational Specialist. WOMEN IN HISTORY "Our Founding Mothers" Readers Theater March 16th - 2:00 p.m. - Sleeping Lady Retreat April HISTORY OF THE TRINITY MINES April 8th - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch A Pictorial presentation of the history of the Trinity Mine site, the owners and underground mining in the area. Presented by Lake Wenatchee resident and local historian Byron Dickkinson. May THE CHUMSTICK GRANGE May 6th - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch Long time member of the Grange, Shirley Ward, will present the history of the Grange from its beginings in the 20's to the present. WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE Receipe For Justice May 11th - 2:00 p.m. - Sleeping Lady Retreat The world premier of "Recipe For Justice," a musical readers theatre to commemorate the 2009-10 centenial of Washington women sufrage, comes to Sleeping Lady's Chapel Theatre on Mother's Day, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. The musical history drama features three generations of women planning a celebration dinner s the teenagers, mother and grandmother share memories, songs, recipes, and contrary views over women's rights. The script is by Leaavenworth author and readers theatre director Susan Butruille, with Bellingham musician Linda Allen. Authentic suffrage music and Dr. Allen's songs about food and life and women's rights weave through the production. The Upper Valley Historical Society and Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat sponsor the production, with partial funding from the Washington Women's History Consortium. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 seniors, $7 students. (Please - no children under 6) For information contact the Upper Valley Historical Society at 509-548-0728. 2008 Summer Series June ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE LEAVENWORTH AREA June 3rd - 6:30 p.m. - Museum Sun Porch WENATCHEE NATIONAL FOREST CENTENNIAL A powerpoint presentation of historical photos from the period 1908 - 1960; with a summary of events in the Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Cashmere and Blewitt areas. OLD BARN TOURJune 21st - 9:00 a.m. Tour begins at the Upper Valley Museum A tour bus will drive you through the Icicle Valley and East Leavenworth area where you will view old barns, icehouses, milk houses and equipment use in earlier days. Presented by local historian Pat Stoudt and Anne Koenig. For further information and reservations call the Museum office at (509) 548-0728. There will be a fee charged for this program. August Stevens Pass Railroad History Tour Explore the Route of the Iron Goat - the Great Northern Railroad Visit the Iron Goat Trai and the site of the 1910 Wellington Desaster August 23rd (Saturday) - 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Presented by the Upper Valley Historical Society and the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center. Cost: $10 Pre-register at 548-0728 Meet at the Upper Valley Museum at Leavenworth for introduction and carpooling arrangements - 347 Division Street, Leavenworth. Bring lunch, water, walking shoes and YOUR CAMERA. You will visit 5 historical railroad sites between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass. The tour will be led by the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center curator/historian: MARK BEHLER.
